Phavixay Sundara, Diplomate, MAcOM, LAc

Phavixay approaches patient care with the philosophy, "listen to the patient, be honest with the patient and never stop caring". He understands the importance of establishing effective communication and trust. Each patient is very special and deserves the opportunity to ask questions and recivesclear answers so they can make informed decisions regarding treatment procedures. A board certified licensed acupuncturist, Mr. Sundara earned his Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine degree at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in Portland, Oregon.

The human body is connected by the pathways called meridians. These meridians conduct energy, or Qi between the surface of the body and the internal organs. Each point has a different effect on the Qu that passes through it.

Acupuncturists insert very thin needles into the skin at different acupuncture points to access and redirect the Qi. For the safety of all patients, we only use sterilized disposable needles. For example the treatment of low back, the most importantaspect for a successful treatment are not so much a differentiation of patters but a proper selection of distal and local points grouped along specific pathways or meridians that cross the body with appropriate manipulation and radiation of the needle sensation.

HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK?

When the flow of energy is absent, deficient, excessive or blocked in a specific area, good health can be interrupted, resulting in illness or pain. Acupuncture therapy succeeds by allowing energy to flow freely through the pathway or meridians. By stimulation of the appropriate acupuncture points along these meridians, energy is released and regulated. The German study on low back pain reported more pain relief from acupuncture than conventional treatments, research Heinz Endres, MD tells WebMB (webmd.com/back-pain/news/2007). Evidence shows that it releases endorphins from the brain which makes acupuncture effective in pain control. The World Health Organization recognizes the use of acupuncture in the treatment of common illnesses such as asthma, colitis, constipation, diarrhea, migrane, back and knee pain, stress, anxiety, PMS, impotence, infertility, insomnia, depression and much more! Chinese Herbal Medicine is an integral component of the successful treatment.

Acupuncture's points using contra lateral insertion, "needle the right points for the left disease". It means when a disease is located on the left side, we needle the points on the right side. When a disease is located on the head we needle the points on the leg and foot. The contra lateral selection points functions to balance the two sides of the body, works to harmonize and balance the energy level. It allows the body to heal itself.
